CERTIFICATION FOR MANNING, THE ROSS, AND SHAW:
The new Certification regulations now divide private seniors' residences into four categories, two designated for autonomous adults and two for semi-autonomous seniors. The Wales Home will have one certification that encompasses two categories: Manning and Shaw are considered Category Three and the Ross is Category One. Establishments must meet certain standards, otherwise their Certification will not be renewed. Establishments with multiple mission statements cannot mix their clientele on the same units; for example, CHSLD residents cannot live on Manning 1 with RPA residents. Each establishment must have a Living Environment Committee implemented by December 2023; ours will thus cover Manning, the Ross, and Shaw. The table below describes the four Certification categories:
Category | Mandatory Services | Optional Services | Prohibited Services |
Category One: Autonomous adults, not-for-profit (Ross) | Security |
|
|
Category Two: Autonomous adults, for profit |

Category Three: Semi-autonomous seniors (Manning and Shaw) |

|
Not applicable |
Category Four: Semi-autonomous seniors, whole RPA on the same unit |
Security Activities Minimum of one personal assistance Minimum of one nursing service |
CHSLD HARMONIZATION:
The CHSLD harmonization process has been very long, but I expect to sign the contract very soon. The biggest challenge has been the pays, as we must use the same pay system as the Public Sector. A solution was approved, and follow-up is pending.

FIRST WALES ADMISSION OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO!
Did you know that the Wales Home is the first seniors' residence in Québec? Construction began in 1921 and the first admission was on March 17th, 1922.
RESIDENT TESTIMONY:
A Shaw 2 resident expressed to me that she thinks the Wales staff is absolutely amazing across the board, from food services, housekeeping, caregiving, nursing, administration, maintenance, to professional services. She is so happy to be living here. Kudos for making residents so happy and comfortable!
RESSOURCE INTERMÉDIAIRE (RI) ON cENTRAL:
On Thursday, January 26th, 2023, the Wales signed a ten-year contract with the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux de l'Estrie - Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CIUSSSE-CHUS) for rental of Central's twelve beds. These beds are subsidized by the government and the CIUSSSE-CHUS provides the professional services.
ROSS:
The amenities level is scheduled to be complete by Wednesday, March 15th, 2023. A date will soon be announced whereupon residents and employees will be invited to visit the new building. In the meantime, please remember residents and employees are prohibited from entering the Ross uninvited. Currently, sixteen out of forty-two units are taken, and an Open House will be scheduled in the spring to market the remaining apartments.
SATISFACTION SURVEYS:
Please remind residents to complete and return their annual satisfaction survey to Kristie by Monday, March 13th, 2023. On Monday, February 27th, 2023, there will be a workshop in the Main Living Room for any resident requiring assistance completing their survey; CHSLD residents can receive individual support on their unit if they are unable to attend the workshop.
