January 2017’s Wales Home News

by: Rebecca Taylor

The new year has begun at the Home and all departments throughout the home have been bustling with busyness – including our construction crew which is working on our ‘Front of House’ expansion. Here are just some of January’s highlights.

The Christmas decorations came down this month and hearts, teddy bears and cupid’s arrow began appearing around the home in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

We re-launched knitter’s club on the 2nd. It is a chance for residents to get together and enjoy this craft in each other’s company on a weekly basis. Friday teas resumed on the 6th after a December hiatus due to all the holiday activities.

A jewellery sale was held in the living room on the 9th. Episodes of the Carol Burnett Show were shown on the large screen in the living room on the evening of the 9th. A short presentation on video making (souvenir videos) was given by Michel Quirion on the afternoon of the 12th.  This month’s birthday tea was hosted in the living room on the 18th by the Richmond and Melbourne Young Women. Happy birthday to everyone who had a birthday in December and January. The movie An Avonlea Christmas was shown in the living room on the afternoon of the 20th. Popcorn was enjoyed during the movie in celebration of National Popcorn Day. The Roxton Singers came on the evening of the 23rd. A new activity (31/bunco) was launched in the living room on the afternoon of the 26th.

Welcome to Marjorie Abercrombie and Doreen Wurzel who became residents this month. Our sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Mary Taylor and Chester “Chet” Perkins. Chet was one of our board members for many years prior to moving into the home, right up until his death. His funeral service was held in the Wales Home living on the afternoon of the 13th.

If you are looking for ideas for an interesting book to read, copies of “Memories Everlasting,” are still available for sale exclusively at the Wales Home.  They are $20 and can be purchased by contacting Rebecca Taylor by phone at 819-826-3266 ext.221 or by e-mail at rtaylor@waleshome.ca. Mailing is available for an additional cost. All proceeds from the sale go to the Wales Home Foundation. We are currently working on the sequel which will be titled “Timeless Memories.”
