GENERAL VOLUNTEERING:
We cannot have too many volunteers! The request for volunteering is also from the Wales Home residents. Many of you are very capable of helping another resident. There are several volunteer roles that I can explore with you. For exmaple, we are searching for an early evening volunteer on Norton 1. Should someone be interested, please contact Carol Ann.
dvd movies:
Should anyone have DVD movies they owuld like to share or donate to the Wales Home, please contact the Activity Department. Musicals would also be appreciated. Thank you for the ones we received; you can keep them coming! :)
PUZZLES:
Should anyone have puzzles to donate, we are looking for boxes with 750 pieces or less. The large puzzles are too difficult for many reisdents.
LOW VISION/MOBILITY DIFFICULTIES:
Should residents have low vision or mobility difficulties for actions such as attending activities or reading the menus, please let Vanessa or Carol Ann know. They may be able to make adaptations which may in turn help you. :)
users' commitee representative for the long-term care units:
Judy Laberee is the Long-Term Care Units Representative. Should you wish to speak to her, she may be contacted by phone at 819-826-3486 or email at judy@laberee.com.
assistance for residents in distress:
Should someone find a resident in distress, such as someone who has fallen or is living some other emergency situation, please push your call bell bracelet (or theirs). We do not want anyone to harm themselves or the resident in distress; we ask that you wait for assistance from a member of the personnel.
assistance feeding loved ones:
One day, while I was feeding residents on Norton 2, I thought that perhaps some family members or loved ones would like to do the same from time to time. Feeding is a very intimate moment for both, as communication is sometimes limited for these residents, so the action is a great opportunity to interact with loved ones. The staff are there to help guide you. Should anyone wish to volunteer, please let the Norton 2 personnel know.
Pastoral Care Provider:
Reverend Wayner Beamer is at the Wales Home Chapel every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.. Reverand Wayne's presence at the Wales Home is part of a Ministry of the Richmond United Church for a period of one year. Should you or someone you know benefit from or require Reverand Wayne's ministry, please let him know. He will be having lunch in the Main Dining Room on Wednesdays with the residents.
Reverand Wayne would like to remind you that although he is not currently physically at the Wales, he is here in thought. As stated above, if you wish, you may reach out to him by phone or FaceTime.
resident gift ideas:
I am taking the liberty of offering a few gift ideas for residents:
- Hairdresser coupons (we have two in-house hairdressers from whom gift certificates can be purchased).
- Réjeanne Richard: 819-826-3615
- Andrée Grenier: 819-823-3056 or sebgaband@hotmail.com
- Complementary therapies such as massage therapy, zootherapy, manicures (I recently found an esthetician who will come to the Wales Home), and music therapy. These therapes can be purchased for individuals or groups. The Wales Home does provide group zootherapy and music therapy once per month for CHSLD residents, but should you desire to have any of these therapies on a personal level, please contact us and we will point you in the right direction.
TV Tour:
Wales Home news can be viewed on channel eighty of your television.
areas available to families:
There are rooms available for families to use should they wish to spend time or enjoy a meal together with loved ones. For example, the Shaw 4 Recreation Room is available at no charge for families who would like to reserve and have a meal catered, order some food, or bring food of their own.. There are dishes, utensils, cups, and more available. Should this room not be available, there are other options. Please contact the Activity Department or Kristie Wright for further information. We ask that these rooms be returned to their original order.
students:
The four students who did internships at the Wales, Bishop's University Psychology undergraduates Zach and Mael and Champlain Regional College Lennoxville Special Care Counselling students Mandy and Marc, will unfortunately not be returning to the Wales due to our current reality. We wish them well in their future endeavours and thank them for their participation.
library:
With residents remaining on their units, books may not be as accessible. If you would like something to read, please let us know!
mother's Day:
Mothers are some of the most important people in our lives. So go out and celebrate Mother's Day! First and foremost, spend time with her. If you absolutely cannot be there, take time for a long phone call. Flowers, cards, candy, and gifts can be part of the day. But time together is priceless!

We will be working on Mother's Day to hopefully brighten your day. We have a couple plans up our sleeves... stay tuned!
