renovations:
We will soon resume renovations on Manning 1 and 2; bedrooms should be complete in 2021. Thank you in advance for your patience during the renovation process!
OUTINGS:
RPA residents must register their outings, such as when they leave the grounds for personal errands, medical appointments, or family visits. This log will be used for contact tracing should a resident contract COVID-19.
- Shaw Sub-Basement, Manning Basement, Shaw 3, and Shaw 4 residents must register at door number three.
- Manning and Shaw 1 and 2 residents must register with their LPN.
CAMPAIGN LAUNCH:
Due to the pandemic, the scheduled annual Wales Home Foundation Campaign Launch was cancelled.
THANK YOU:
The Users' Committee recognizes and applauds our fantastic work during this difficult time.
COVID-19:
Please ensure you follow Public Health regulations as we are experiencing COVID-19's second wave, which is expected to be worse than the first. Currently, the Estrie is in the Moderate Alert stage. but if infection rates continue to increase, our community will be asked to self-isolate again; we restricted visitation to primary caregivers or for humanitarian purposes. Please remember to bring a clean uniform and change upon arrival; Administration does the same. Please keep in mind that you must wash your hands when you enter a unit and before you leave. Please werr your mask over your nose and mouth and maintain a two-metre distance before removing your mask during your break. According to Public Health, individuals with facial disfiguration are permitted to forego wearing a mask; this exception does not apply to any of our residents or employees. Those who cannot independently manage mask wearing are also exempt, such as our residents with dementia.
CONTINGENCY PLAN:
We recently drafted a Contingency Plan to protect our resources, minimize resident and family member inconvenience, identify key staff, and assign specific responsibilities for recovery after COVID-19. Emergency planning provides employees with guidance and direction for issues such as:
- Controlling the virus's spread and reducing morbidity and mortality by providing access to appropriate prevention measures, care, treatment, and resources
- Ensuring critical services' continuity and recovery
- Supporting an efficient and effective use of resources during response and recovery
- Ensuring the CHSLD Wales Inc. adheres to Public Health recommendations regarding services to residents and employees
- Minimizing adverse economic impacts
PDF copies were sent to All Computers via email. As part of the Plan, we designated Central as the unit where residents who test positive for COVID-19 will relocate, should this scenario arise. As you probably know, Central is the oldest unit in the building and was recently renovated to include twelve private bedrooms including private washrooms to accommodate intermediate care.
Equipment Inventory as of September 25th, 2020:
Personal Protective Equipement (PPE) |
Surgical masks: 23,000
|
Hand hygiene products | 102 containers |
Disinfection products |
Seven containers of 300 ZOCHLOR tables: twenty-four ordered
|
The Wales has an agreement with Stevens for 6,000 masks per month and a concurrence with Medline for vinyl and nitrile gloves. The CHSLD Wales Inc. ensures a minimum stock of three months' worth of PPE.
ELECTROCLAVE:
On September 2nd, 2020, we recieved an Electroclave, which is a UV-C disinfection machine and installed the device across from Amanda's office. This box is typically used to clean mobile devices in hospitals, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in their BSL-4 labs. The product can also disinfect N95 masks during this time of crisis and international shortage. The Electroclave works by shining a special UV light for sixty seconds, which kills most pathogens living on high-touch surfaces like touchscreens. We recommend that employees who carry a phone for our Real-Time Location System use the Electroclave at least once per day. Here is the machine's user's guide:
CUTLERY:
The cutlery from the three employee Break Rooms is missing. In the last year, I personally donated three sets, Jean-Marc donated one group, and the old cutlery from Norton 2 was given to employees for a total of fifty-four forks, fifty-four knives, and fifty-four spoons. Unfortunately, there are none left. If you borrowed cutlery from the Wales, can you please kindly return it to the correct Break Room. Please note that employees are not permitted to borrow cutlery from resident spaces, including the Main Dining Room, nursing stations, and Shaw 4. Please ensure you pack your lunch accordingly as the Wales will no longer provide cutlery except for special events like employee recognition barbecues.
CIRCULATION:
Employees must continue to minimize circulation throughout the building; please remain in your own department as much as possible. Please do not enter the Serving Kitchen unless you work there, even for coffee; coffee is available in the employee Break Room across from the Foot care/Dentist office.
BREAK ROOM:
The new storage room between the Laundry and the Kitchen will be temporarily transformed into a break room to ensure employees can respect Public Health distancing measures. This room will be set up when the auction items are removed.
LOCKERS:
Please remove your lock from your locker at the end of your shift, as we do not have enough for each employee. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooeperation. Any lock not removed after twenty-four hours will be cut off by the Maintenance Department.
FRIDGE:
Employees are leaving food in the Break Room fridges, especially the CHSLD one, and the food is rotting. For sanitary and obvious reasons, please remove your food at the end of your shift.
HUMAN RESOURCES:
Sydney hired Karine Bernier to replace Joyce and Sydney is progressively returning to the office.
CENTRAL:
I will schedule dates and times for employees who wish to visit Central if the unit is not being used as a hot zone for COVID-19. Please do not enter the unit unauthorized.
VACATION:
I will be on vacation from October 5th until Octobter 13th, 2020. If you need anything during my absence, please contact Pauline at pjubinville@waleshome.ca or 819-826-3266 extension 253.
