hello:
From the ouset, I would like to share with you how impressed and grateful I am for the efforts and compromises that each of you has made to get us through the sixth COVID-19 wave that hit us very hard. As an organization and as employees, we should be proud of how we pulled together and offered the best we could to our residents in this difficult time. Thank you so much!
We are heading for summer and the vacation period. We expect this season to be another challenging one. We recruited employees from agencies quite early in the process to sustain our clinical activities during this time but, unfortunately, some of them decided to end their work at the Wales. As you will see belo, we are working with an immigration consultant, and we began collaborating with a specialized international recruitment firm. The impact of the cooperative work with the business will be felt more during the fall, but we might have a few new employees for the summer period throug our conultant's work. We hope that we will welcome those new employees as soon as possible. I wish you a great summer!
PAY QUESTIONS:
If you have questions about your pay upon looking at your pay stub, please contact Eilleen Naredo at enaredo@waleshome.ca or 819-826-3266 extension 275.
CALL BELL SYSTEM:
The new call bell system is almost ready to use. We will keep you posted.
ADDITIONAL CENTRAL CAREGIVER:
The renogotiation process of our Central contract is ongoing. Unfortunately, with our current manpower and many other units working short, the 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central caregiver is on of the shifts we often cannot fill. The pilot project including that shift and the LPN schedule changes, therefore, has not been done. Until this project takes place, Central positions will not be posted.
With our vacant Nursing Director position, Management support for Central will be offered by Danielle St-Louis. She will come in a couple times a week until further notice. These on-site days will also allow her to implement the required tools to optimize Central processes.
recruitment:
Eight caregivers are in the immigration process with our regular consultant. As mentioned above, we signed a contract with an immigration firm to increase our recruitment chances. We asked for six nurses, eleven caregivers, and four Food Services employees. So far, our collaboration with that firm is very good.
HUMAN RESOURCES INDICATORS FROM SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH, 2022 TO SATURDAY, APRIL 23RD, 2022:
The information covers two periods: Sunday, February 27th, 2022 to Saturday, March 26th, 2022 and Sunday, March 27th, 2022 to Saturday, April 23rd, 2022. The following summarizes these two periods' higlights:
- We hired nine employees and eight left the Wales. Overall, we have one fewer Food Services employee, one more caregiver, one more housekeeper, one more clinical aide, and one fewer LPN
- The number of employees on sick leave reduced from twelve to four. The number of employees on CNESST reduced from six to five and we still have two preventive leaves
- Many employees tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be off work for at least five days. In the first period, we had six positive empoloyees, which constituted twenty-one shifts to replace, but in the second period, we had forty-two positive employees, leading to 139 missing shifts, which put a lot of pressure on Human Resources and employees. There were a lot of last-minute changes in the schedule and employees were very much solicited to do overtime. The overtime data shows COVID-19's impact on our manpower and the need for our employees to do overtime to ensure safe and secure care. Although there was a lot of overtime, units worked short most of the time.
- Uncovered positions increased from twelve to nineteen for a total of 296 shifts uncovered during the last period
- The sixth COVID-19 wave did not affect too many employees in the first period and we were able to manage better; out of the 401 uncovered shifts due to sick leave, maternity leave, preventive leave, CNESST, and COVID-19, only fifty-six were left unfilled: two percent of our total shifts. For the second period, because of COVID-19, we increased to 450 shifts uncovered, which is twenty-two percent of our total shifts, and 151 were left uncovered. Again, these missing shifts' impact can be seen in the overtime tables below
- There were fifty and forty-nine call-ins, up nine and eight respectively, which is twenty-two percent more compared to the last report. Please see the tables below that are quite explicit and highlight the variation from the last period
- Overtime decreased significantly in the first period but, because of the number of employees who contracted COVID-19 during the second period, we had a significant increase in the number of overtime hours

Overtime:
Overtime variation percentages must be interpreted cautiously. The greater the number of hours, the more the percentage is valid. We can clearly see the impact of the number of employees who tested positive for COVID-19.
