Occupational Therapist

SALARY: $27.46 TO $50.39 HOURLY

Job description

The Occupational Therapist assesses functional skills, identifies and implements a treatment and intervention plan, develops, restores or maintains skills, compensates for disabilities, reduces disability situations and adapts the environment in order to promote optimal autonomy of the human being in interaction with their environment. They participate in clinical teaching.

Wanted profile

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Member of the Ordre professionnel des ergothérapeutes du Québec (OPEQ).
  • Two (2) years experience, an important asset.
  • Good knowledge of English and French (written and spoken).

Responsabilities :

Interdisciplinary

  • Active participation in the development and implementation of the Interdisciplinary Intervention Plan.

Evaluation

  • Functional and behavioural assessment, assessment of neuro-musculoskeletal function, assessment of the impact of disabilities on functional abilities and life habits of a person as well as identification of recommendations for carrying out interventions.
  • Assessment of a person suffering from a mental difficulties or neuropsychological conditions.
  • Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress, then recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
  • Evaluate to determine appropriate alternative measures for restraints.
  • Evaluate preventive or curative methods for sores.

Implementation

  • Helps patient develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, homemaking skills, activities of daily living and sensory motor, educational, recreational and social activities
  • Organizes the social environment of the resident, including occupational schedule, support network, teaching and support of the family, caregivers and staff, in order to meet the needs of the resident.
  • Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to the resident’s physical capacity, intelligence level and interest.
  • Adaptation of the physical environment, including home, living environment, technical aids, in order to meet the needs of the resident.

Development

  • Provides education to the staff, residents and families in home exercise programs as well as recommending and/or providing assistive equipment.
  • Develops employees’ knowledge by providing information as well as developing and conducting in service training programs as needed.

Contribution to “milieu de vie”

  • Promotes interaction among residents and groups of residents.
  • Defines, accomplishes and organizes appropriate occupational activities for residents or groups of residents in order to maintain ability to perform daily and leisure activities.

Risk Prevention

  • Ensures proper operation of equipment by completing the preventive maintenance program requirements, follows manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshoots malfunctions and organizes for repairs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

General

  • Any other task that meets and respects the employee’s capabilities that can contribute to the success and help improve the quality of living for the residents and achieve the goals of the department and the Wales Home.
