covid-19:
Our thoughts are with the people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those whose loved ones are fighting the illness and those suffering from social isolation. Our residents' and employees' health remains a top priority and we continue to respect government requirements and measures to ensure safety and security. I want to thank you for doing what you can to keep our community, residents, and each other safe; we are in this challenging situation together.
In line with directives set by the Public Health authorities, we are still prohibited from accepting visitors. We understand the importance of connecting our residents with their friends and family members, especially during stressful and uncertain times. We continue to organizr virtual visits between residents and family members. Should you know a resident who can benefit from this service, please contact Chase.
The following measures are still in place:
- Family members are not to come onsite unless authorized for visits through a window (Monday to Friday)
- No deliveries from family or friends of personal items unless authorized
- No food deliveries (other than those organized by Jean-Marc)
- Residents are to minimize circulation; they should stay on their units and respect the two-meter distancing regulations. Residents from Shaw/Manning have not been visiting residents from the CHSLD; this measure is still in place.
INSPECTION 29/04/2020:
The CHSLD Wales was inspected by a health authority from the CIUSSS and I am proud to share that a very positive report will be distributed to the government; kudos to you! Family members recently asked me if they can come onsifte and visit their parent outside while respecting the two-metre regulation. I received official confirmation that family members are still forbidden to visit our residents, even if they respect the two-metre distance outside. Any family member who would like to visit through a window must have authorization; we need to maintain control and protection. Public Health reports confirm that COVID-19 can be transmitted six days before symptoms manifest and some people are asymptomatic, so the risk is simply too hight. The regulations for senior healthcare facilities must be much stricter than those of the general public. We have collectively made sacrifices in our personal lives to ensure that our residents and fellow employees stay safe. Zero risk does not exist in healthcare, so we must collectively do our best to minimize danger for our residents and employeesm a total of over 350 people. Although the government is gradually reopening the economy, we still need to keep our gates closed.
covid-19 premiums announced by the government:
A few weeks ago, the government announced funding for private senior residences and private CHSLDs. Numerous discussions with the government have not clarified if Wales employees are entitled to these benefits as the Wales pays public salaries. Our situation is unique and the government themselves are not sure. The last thing we want to do is promise money to employees and then have to ask for reimbursement. We will keep you posted.
private versus public chslds:
On April 24th, 2020, Premier Legault announced that he is considering taking over all private CHSLDs and converting them to public long-term care facilities. We sent him a letter requesting clarification. Below is a document explaining the differences between public and private facilities.

uv-c disinfection for mobile devices:
An ElectroClave disinfection machine which uses special UV lamps to destroy pathogens including bacteria and viruses like COVID-19 was recently purchased; the device will be delivered in the next six weeks. The Wales will use this equipment to sterilize not only smart phones (twelve at a time) but also tablets, computer equipment including mice and keyboards, and medical equipment such as N-95 masks, face shields, etc. Please note that personal cell phones and other belongings are still not permitted on the units.

The iPods which are currently being used to receive notifications from our call bell system will be replaced with Samsung Galaxy A20 phones. After months of testing, the new devices have proven to be more reliable and hold their charge for up to forty-eight hours.
