DIRECTOR OF HEALTH SERVICES AND EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT REPLACEMENTS:
We will hire a head-hunter to help identify and recruit the right people for the Director of Health Services (DHS) and Executive Assistant positions. The head-hunter will help us find the right candidates without having to look through numerous CVs and interviewing unsuitable candidates. So far, we have interviewed one person for the DHS position; this individual shows potential. We will keep you posted.
MANNING RENOVATIONS:
Renovations will begin in the first week of August to the following rooms:
- M156
- M157
- M158
- M159
- M256
- M257
- M258
- M259
This process will take three months to complete. Lessard's team will also be working on the ceilings on Shaw 1 and 2 to prepare for the new ventilation, false ceiling, and lighting.
WALES HOME FOUNDATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:
Due to the pandemic, the thirtieth Wales Home Foundation Annual General Meeting will be held virtually by invitation only.
LAUNDRY:
To improve infection control and work efficiency, we ordered three barrier-type pass-through washers, four commercial dryers, and a towel folding machine for our Laundry Department. We have issued instructions as to our expectations for ventilation system design and general installation.
Due to COVID-19 delays, the furniture for the employee terrace above the Laundry is expected to arrive at the end of the month. We apologize for the deferment; Jean-Marc ordered the furniture months ago.
Courtyard:
We just completed the complex process of installing new underground water mains, which totaled 1,000 feet, for fire protection. These mains were also necessary for the new apartment wing's construction. The existing installations at the reservoir were fragile and the water mains dated back to 1958 and 1973. In the next few weeks, Garneau will be on site to undertake the remainder of work and landscaping that should proceed quickly once underway.
ACCREDITATION:
Bruno Vachon from oour Member of the National Assembly André Bachand's office recently stated that he had no follow up regarding the Conseil Québécois d'agrément's Accreditation process or our status changing from Privé non-conventionné to Privé conventionnée. Accreditation Canada launched a new Accreditation for long-term care facilities which is much more rigorous and embodies evaluation continuity. Accrediation Canada recognizes that the current evaluation method does not adequately guarantee quality of services over time. Their evaluation will include periodic attestations, virtual visits, and anonymous auto-evaluations and site appointments.
NEW COVID-19 REGULATIONS:
As our residents are fully protected against COVID-19 except for one Norton 2 resident, they no longer need to wear masks at the Wales unless they are receiving close care or services or attending an event where they will be singing. This rule only applies in seniors' residences and long-term care facilities; residents must still wear masks if they go to indoor public places like Maxi or the Post Office.
Visitors who are fully protected do not have to distance themselves from the resident and may now remove their masks in residents' rooms or outside if they provide proof of full protection to either our Administrative Summer Student, Myriam Elkas, at melkas@waleshome.ca or to our Visit Coordinator at Door Number One. Once we receive evidence, a coupon will be issued stating they are authorized to remove their mask and do not have to distance themselves from others in common areas and when circulating. Employees are authorized to ask any visitor not wearing a mask inside a resident's room to show their card at any time. Fully protected visitors are also permitted to eat in the dining rooms at a table with their specific resident ony if they supply their proof.
Visitors who are not fully protected or do not supply proof of immunization or a positive COVID-19 result must continue to wear their mask and maintain a two-metre distance from others. Please note that Public Health increased the physical distancing for non-protected visitors from one to two metres. Wales employees and volunteers must continue to wear masks, regardless of their protection status.
CHSLD residents are now permitted to resume attending activities in the Main Living Room and other common areas with RPA residents. They may also visit on the Shaw and Manning wings as before the pandemic. We are so excited to see them mingling throughout the building again!

PLANETREE:
The Wales decided to invest in communicating with empathy, as many of you expressed concerns that we need to improve communication. This Fall, employees will be trained on how to embrace and use the powerful Heart-Hand-Heart method to make their caring felt in their daily interactions. When residents, family members, and coworkers feel your caring, they become less anxious and more trusting, confident, and cooperative. In short, they feel safe and supported in your caring hands.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream another dream." - C.S. Lewis
Wishing you a wonderful month; please stay safe!
