DEXTER SURATOS:
As Wales employees, we share a common goal to do our best and go above and beyond making sure the residents are well cared for and happy. Occasionnally, an event or situation is so special and must be shared, and I would like to relay this one to you.
Several months ago, a special lady on Norton 3, Shirley Stronach, passed away. A few weeks before she passed, she asked one of her caregivers, Dexter Suratos, if he would sing at her funeral, a request to which he immediately agreed. Dexter has a beautiful voice and Shirley loved to hear him sing on the unit while he was working.
Shirley's son Rocky was aware of her request but was not sure if Dexter was serious, so he contacted him and, much to his surprise, Dexter said he would be happy to oblige. This past weekend, Dexter joined Shirley's family at the Malvern Cemetery to fulfill her wish.
I think what touched me the most about this story is when I congratulated Dexter for his kindness, he acted like this action was just the normal thing to do! His humble response made the moment even more exceptional.
Special attentions like these make me so happy and proud to work with such caring people! Rest in peace, Shirley; I hope you enjoyed the singing. Dexter, you rock!
