Hello,
The least I can say is January was difficult due to COVID-19 outbreaks and felt like Groundhog Day with its déjà vu, unfortunately. Again, you were there for the residents and I am extremely grateful for that. Outbreaks put enormous pressure on you, regardless of your job title. This time, in the CHSLD, we were confronted with our values relating to health and safety guidelines we had to follow. This conflict was extremely difficult for many of us psychologically because of the impacts on residents.
At first, I saw the effects on residents and employees and I was very uncomfortable looking at what we were going through. We were finally able to find solutions with Public Health to reduce those impacts. Upon reflection, there is one positive conclusion.
Yes, you suffered from being at the heart of the impacts on residents, which is extremely sad. Without your dedication and compassion, however, we would not have overcome these outbreaks as easily. I can only be delighted with the excellent employees you are for the residents and thank you for your constantly renewed commitment to them. Thank you. For our RPA employees, as I write these lines, you are in the outbreak's peak. Please hang in there!
HUMAN RESOURCES (HR) REORGANIZATION:
We are gently settling into our positions. Our progress was slowed by the outbreaks, but we will inform you shortly so you can address the correct person when you have a question. Having the necessary manpower in HR means we will be able to resume the Employee Relations Committee shortly and the Occupational Health and Safety Commitee thereafter. We will keep you informed.
COVID-19 OUTBREAKS AND CNESST CLAIMS:
I just want to remind you that a memo was issued on Thusday, January 19th, 2023 informing you that while we are in an outbreak, you can claim CNESST for COVID-19-related absences. Please see the memo for further details. You can find the document on the Agendrix newsfeed and via email.
RECRUITMENT:
Immigration employees:
I know we have been talking for a long time about employees who are supposed to arrive. Here is a recap:
Job Title | File with Sebastien Aubé | File with ISA Firm |
Caregivers |
|
|
Nurses |
|
|
Food Services employees |
|
|
Maintenance employee |
|
The immigration process is complicated so the timeframe can change, but at this time, these are the expected delays.
Non-Clinical and Clinical Positions:
We are interviewing candidates who applied and meet the requirements for various positions. On both schedules, we recently recruited a few employees, which is good!
Administration Positions:
The Nursing Director recruitment is still ongoing. The process for one candidate is complete. We are waiting to proceed with another one.
Interviews for the two Unit Manager positions did not lead to any hiring. The positions are still posted. For the Executive Assistant position, a candidate is going through the hiring process.
AGENDRIX:
I want to thank you for your collaboration in this new scheduling tool's implementation. Clocking in and out is a new habit to adopt, so we understand if you forget at times. By the end of the month, we are sure you will remember to do so at the beginning and end of each shift.
HUMAN RESOURCES INDICATORS FROM SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4TH, 2022 TO SATURDAY, DECEMBER 31ST, 2022:
The following informartion has not yet been presented to the CHSLD Board of Directors and the RPA Executive Committee, as January's meeting was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The following list contains the highlights of different indicators we study:
- Globally, we hired six new employees and four left; we have two more Food Services employees, one more administrative employee, and one fewer LPN. The clinical and non-clinical schedules are still using agency workers
- Compared with the last As the Wales Turns edition, shifts left uncovered increased three percent, or eighty-five shifts; these statistics are good considering we had more employees off work due to COVID-19 - thirty-seven additional shifts were left to be filled than the last period
- We have twenty-two uncovered positions, uncluding five in Administration. The table below shows these uncovered positions' impact:
Administration | Clinical and Non-Clinical Schedules | ||
Uncovered Positions | Uncovered Shifts Per Week | Uncovered Positions | Uncovered Shifts Per Week |
5 (↓0.6) | 25 (↓3) | 17 (stable) | 71 (stable) |
- During this period, twelve employees tested positive for COVID-19, five more than the previous period, leading to thirty-seven shifts to be replaced
- Call-ins decreased seven percent with four fewer for a total of fifty-four. Considering that we had twelve more employees who tested positive for COVID-19, a decrease of four call-ins needs to be considered an improvement. In fact, if we did not have these twelve positive employees, we would have had sixteen fewer call-ins. We still consider that the premiums help reduce call-ins because absences prevent access to these premiums. Here are the highlights:
- The day with the most call-ins was Friday, December 23rd, 2022 with five. The following dates had four call-ins:
- Saturday, December 10th, 2022
- Sunday, December 11th, 2022
- Saturday, December 17th, 2022
- Saturday, December 31st, 2022
- Call-ins significantly increased on Manning and Shaw 2. A decrease is noted on Central
- Call-ins increased significantly on night shift
- Call-ins decreased significantly for caregivers and increased significantly for LPNs
- The day with the most call-ins was Friday, December 23rd, 2022 with five. The following dates had four call-ins:
- Overall, overtime slightly decreased. Increases are noted, however, for housekeepers, nurses, clinical aides, and the Activity Department

To those numbers, we need to add twelve employees who were off due to COVID-19, an increase of five. Thirty-four people, an increase of three, therefore, were absent during this period, spread across different job titles:
- Four Food Services employees, a decrease of one
- Two housekeepers, an increase of one
- One clinical aide, a decrease of one
- Twelve caregivers, a derease of five
- Seven LPNs, an increase of two
- One nurse (stable)
- Three other, an increase of two
We are pleased to welcome:
- Amalia Blinn in Food Services
- Rara Avis Laureta, caregiver
