THE ACTIVITY DEPARTMENT WANTS TO KEEP YOU ON THE MOVE:
Greetings and happy September! I looked out the window the other day and saw that the leaves are already changing, which I guess is an indication that fall is around the corner! My, the summer sure went by quickly! I hope this Chatter finds you enjoying summer's remaining days. September has many interesting activities in store for the Wales!
BIRTHDAY TEA:
September's Birthday Tea will again consist of one-on-one visits in the afternoon of Wednesday, September 16th. Since we are unable to host a traditional Birthday Tea due to the pandemic, we received lovely cards from the Trenholm United Church women. Thank you to those who helped make this gift happen and Happy Birthday to those celebrating this month!
NEWSPAPER CARRIER DAY:
Friday, September 4th is Newspaper Carrier Day. This holiday honours those who work in this profession or have in the past. This list includes thousands, if not millions, of people. Years ago, this role was mostly filled by pre-teens and teenagers until around sixteen, when most teens move on to restaurants, grocery stores, and other retail jobs.

LABOUR DAY:
Labour Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September in Canada. The holiday orginated to give workers the chance to campaign for better working conditions and pay. The day now provides a long weekend for manu Canadians.

music THERAPY:
Trish will be here on Monday, September 7th to play guitar and sing. In the morning, she will perform in the CHSLD before moving to the Main Living Room at 1:30 p.m. for Manning and Shaw 1 and 4 residents and at 2:30 p.m. for the rest of the Manning and Shaw residents.
CHURCH WITH LISA CODDINGTON:
Lisa will offer non-denominational Christian services on Saturday, September 12th at the following times:
- 9:00 a.m. in the Main Dining Room for Manning and Shaw 2 and 4 residents
- 10:00 a.m. in the Main Living Room for Sub-Basement, Manning Basement, Manning and Shaw 1, and Shaw 3 residents
These rites will be the first physically-distanced services since the pandemic began. I will be onsite to help.
BAKING:
We will attempt a Baking activity in the Manning 1 Kitchenette on Monday, September 14th at 1:30 p.m.. Physical distancing regulations must be respected throughout, so this activity will be a trial.
If this activity goes well, we will do the same in the Manning 2 Kitchenette on Monday, September 21st at 1:30 p.m..
happy hour:
Marie-Christine and I will be circulating to offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments on Thursday, September 15th in the afternoon.
harp music:
Julie Millar will serenade CHSLD residents with beautiful harp music in the following solariums:
- 9:30 a.m. on Norton 1
- 10:00 a.m. on Norton 2
- 10:30 a.m. on Norton 3
CRAFTS WITH AUDREY AND SANDRA:
Audrey and Sandra will be doing crafts in the following locations on Thursday, September 17th:
- Main Living Room at 1:30 p.m. for Manning and Shaw 1 and Shaw 4 residents
- Main Dining Room at 2:30 p.m. for Manning and Shaw 2 and apartment residents
Please sit in your regular spot and bring crayons if you own some. CHSLD residents who are interested will do this craft with Marie-Christine at a later date.
national dance day:
Saturday, September 19th is National Dance Day. Make no mistake; this day is not for couch potatoes. Please get up and dance the day and night away. Dancing is an expressive artform that burns calories, strengthens your heart, and tones your muscles. A fast dance can keep you in shape while having the time of your life.

INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY:
Monday, September 21st is International Peace Day, a holiday that seeks global cessation of violence and war. Celebrations are held each year with this goal in mind. Created and sponsored by the United Nations, this day calls for one day of non-violence and cease fire. John Lennon's "Imagine" is a wonderful theme song for this day.

Robert "Bob" Daignault will offer handpan music on Tuesday, September 22nd at the following times:
- 1:30 p.m. in the Main Living Room for Manning and Shaw 1 and 4 residents

TRIVIA:
The Activity Department pruchased two new trivia books entitled Finishing Lines and Finishing Lyrics. We will try these fun games at the following times:
- 9:30 a.m. in the Shaw 1 Solarium
- 10:30 a.m. in the Shaw 2 Solarium
- 1:30 p.m. in the Recreation Room
- 2:00 p.m. on Shaw 3
- 2:30 p.m. in the Manning Basement
NATIONAL MUD PACK DAY:
National Mud Pack Day is on Wednesday, September 30th. Please slop on the facials; this day is designed for self-care.
Mud packs were once the rage in facial treatments and are designed to keep skin youthful and soft. Many people swear by this tupe of care! Mud packs are also a quick treatment for bee stings.

EXERCISE CLASS:
Exercise Classes will now be held in the Main Living Room and Main Dining Room. Please attend sessions in your designated meal space.
friday treats:
As residents should not congregate, we now offer Friday Treats on Friday afternoons. Like other events, this this activity will be offered on the various units. Thank you to the Kitchen personnel for homemade goodies and to our Purchaser, Jean-Marc, who buys very special delicacies such as ice cream on a stick, cake, and chippie treats.
sunday church service:
We are aware of pastoral services' importance at the Wales. We work diligently to find creative ways to offer these rites. A Sunday Church Service is offered on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. on Channel Eighty, through TV Tours. A Catholic service is offered at 3:00 p.m. on the same channel. In-person church services have not yet resumed at the Wales. A sincere thank you to Reverand Lee-Ann Hogle for her weekly United Services.
virtual visits:
To break social isolation during this difficult time, we offer FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, Google Duo, Skype, and Teams for residents and family members to connect. If none of these platforms are accessible for you, Chase has other options. If you wish to participate, please contact me or Chase and we will arrange a visit. Thus far, these communication tools have garnered positive feedback.

little market:
Apartment residents are the only residents permitted to purchase items from the Little Market. Other residents may obtain their possessions through Cecil's errand service.
