Marie-Christine and Carol Ann's Message
THE ACTIVITY DEPARTMENT WANTS TO KEEP YOU ON THE MOVE:
Ah, Spring! Happy April!
Well, my hope is that with spring comes new beginnings. :) Yes, I suppose I am partly trying to convince myself, but having said that, there seems to be a new vision on the horizon, right? "Yes, of course," you say. Many people have gotten vaccinated with more scheduled. There has got to be something bright that comes from this experience, right? I know there is usually one final storm - time will tell.
We are still living in a go with the flow mode at the Wales pertaining to activities. Not much has changed for the CHSLD and the RPA returned to the Dining Room. We look forward to the moment group activities can be held once more.
BIRTHDAY TEA:
April's Birthday Tea will be modified to a door-to-door activity due to the pandemic. Celebrants will be highlighted on April 21st in the afternoon and will receive a lovely card and gift from the St. Augustine's Church Women in Danville. Thank you to those who will help make this event happen!
APRIL FOOL'S DAY:
Thursday, April 1st is April Fool's Day! Traditionally, this day is an opportunity for playing jokes or tricks on each other: the stranger and more absurd, the better! The challenge is to carry out a trick that is believable, if only for a little while. Deceits are most successful if played earlier in the day, before the person gets wise to you. Younger children are also more gullible.

EASTER EGG HUNT:
Shaw and Manning residents are invited to search for Easter Eggs on Thursday, April 1st throughout the building.
GOOD FRIDAY:
Friday, April 2nd is Good Friday! On this day, Jesus Christ died on the cross for us, but only in human form. He then arose from the dead on Easter Sunday morning to show us there is life after death in heaven. Also called "Dark Friday," this day is for solemn prayer and the final day of fasting for the long Lenten season.
Christ was nailed to the cross at noon. His death came at 3:00 p.m.. Christians often spend this period in silent prayer.

This past year has been unlike any other and despite the mamy restrictions and constant changes, our volunteers have been essential to keep things going at the Wales. A heartfelt thank you to each volunteer and happy Volunteer Week. xxx Volunteers are slowly reintegrating into their traditional duties!

hat day:
We invite you to don your favourite or silliest hat on Friday, April 23rd.
NATIONAL ZIPPER DAY:
Thursday, April 29th is National Zipper Day. Zip it or unzip it, Zippety Doo Dah! Have you ever stopped to think about where we would be without zippers? We would waste time each day buttoning countless buttons, hooks, clasps, and string ies. With the invention of the zipper, your clothing is quickly and comfortably opened and closed.
Thankfully, the zipper was invented on April 29th, 1851 but Elias Howe, who applied for a patent for the "Continuous Clothing Closure." Strangely, he never marketed his product. In 1893, Whitcomb Judson started the Universal Fastener Company and began selling the "Clasp Locker," which debuted at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893 and initially was only moderately successful. In 1913, Gideon Sundback, a Swedish electrical engineer and scientist, invented and marketed the modern zipper, and the name was coined by B.F. Goodrich in 1923. To this day, metal zippers are by far the most popular fasteners due to their strength a durability.
