The 13th annual Wales Home Foundation Golf Tournament took place on Thursday, August 8th, 2019 at Golf et académie Longchamp in Sherbrooke, Québec. The rainy morning weather did not deter the 144 players from coming together to participate in the tournament, some from as far away as Ottawa, Toronto, and Kingston! A total of 201 people attended and enjoyed the banquet supper. The tournament was once again completely full!

The tournament was comprised of a variety of activities, such as the longest cane drive and closest to the pin games. There were also three potential hole-in-one prizes: money towards an electric car from JN Auto, a utility vehicle from Équipement R.M. Nadeau, and a year-long lease for a Camry from Toyota Richmond. Wales Home Foundation sponsors also donated snacks for players and volunteers: Pharmacie Familiprix Philippe Leng (goodie bags), Domino’s Pizza, Desjardins (chocolates), and Breuvages Bull’s Head. These fun activities were followed by a delicious banquet dinner emceed by CTV News Montreal’s Entertainment Host, Mr. Mose Persico. Stephen Barrie from BSB Auction Services did an excellent job conducting the event’s live auction, which was extremely exciting and successful due to the variety of interesting items donated. There was also a silent auction running throughout the day. The Foundation wishes to extend a special thank you to the Foundation Board’s President and Vice-president, Mr. Jim Thompson and Mrs. Barbara Verhoef, for their dedication recruiting items for both the live and silent auctions, as well as to the entire Verhoef family for registering three and a half foursomes!

The Golf Tournament is the biggest and most successful annual fundraising event for the Wales Home Foundation, and as such is starting to gain recognition and support from many local and regional businesses. Notable major sponsors of this year’s tournament are: RBC Dominion Securities, Platinum sponsorship; Familiprix Philippe Leng, Gold sponsorship; Bonnie & Steve Griffin, Silver sponsorship; Sanixel, Global Excel Management, MicroAge, Signé Garneau, and Stephen Allatt, Bronze sponsorship; and Constructions Yves Lessard, HUB, Reta and Angus Goodfellow, and Len McDougall, Cobalt sponsorship. Through these and many other sponsors’ everlasting generosity, the Wales Home Foundation was able to raise $53,445.01!

The Wales Home Foundation’s mandate is to generate, receive, and manage funds with a view of long-term profitability; to disburse said funds to the Résidence Wales Home upon request, evaluating benefits to residents and/or employees; and to act at all times in the interests of the residents and employees of the Résidence Wales Home with a view to sustainability of operations. The Foundation wishes to extend its sincerest appreciation to all sponsors, volunteers, family members, employees, and friends of the organization who supported this year’s tournament. Without these businesses and individuals, the tournament would not be the amazing success that it is year after year.
