It has been over a month now since my Dad passed away and I have had some time to reflect.
I cannot thank all the Wales Home staff enough for the kind and compassionate care that they showed my Dad during his three years living at Wales and especially in the last few weeks of his life. The excellent communication with Sara Jones, Roxanne, Kevin and many others on Norton 2 (I do not remember all their names!) was very much appreciated. Sara answered all my e-mails and phone calls immediately. Roxanne is the kindest, most gentle and sensitive person and showed us such kindness. Even, the reseptionist Kristie had a warm hug for us. We were offered coffee and food and many hugs. We were not rushed in any way. My father’s clothes were all neatly packed in a box for us to pick up a few days later. The new long-term care facilities on Norton 2 are beautiful. I have some wonderful memories (and pictures) of time spent in the lovely solarium, beautifully decorated for Christmas.
I was very worried that my Dad would pass away when he was in hospital, or at Herbergement Richmond. I was so happy when he was able to return “home” to Wales Home in time to enjoy the autumn colours, and spend his last few months in a familiar and caring environment, and that my mother could easily visit him.
I had a wonderful visit with him 2 days before he passed. I brought a little Scotch, some oatcakes and shortbread, and we listened to some Christmas music. He was the best he had been in over a week...lots of smiles. Comfort and joy - a wonderful memory to cherish. All this was made possible because of the wonderful facilities and staff at Wales.
With sincere appreciation,
Lynda
