“My name is Keith Baldwin. My wife, Evelyn, and I moved into an apartment at the Wales Home when she was in the early stages of dementia. The Wales was the perfect place for us. We had a comfortable apartment where we were able to prepare our own meals and come and go as we pleased, always knowing we could eat in the Dining Room at any time if we so desired. It was also a comfort to know that there were nursing staff ready and eager to come to our assistance should any health problems ever occur. When Evelyn’s dementia worsened, she was transferred to the long-term care (CHSLD) section of the building – Norton 1 – and I was able to spend time with her everyday for the rest of her life.
As a member of the Users’ Committee, I was flattered to be elected President. This committee is comprised of very active members, mostly residents of the Wales Home. Members promote users’ rights and are particularly vigilant in acting on any dissatisfactions which may come to their attention. As a member of Planetree International, the Wales Home strives for excellence in person-centered care for the elderly and the Users’ Committee constantly aims to help maintain that top level of excellence for which the Wales is already famous.”
